You haven’t seen Woody mad until you tell him you’ve called one of those other so called carpet cleaners instead of calling his PaPa ( grandfather) at Mr. ChemDry. This is why Woody was created without a gun!
Water Damage
Utah Water Damage and Mold
I have been cleaning carpets for about 5 years now and we come across customer’s needs that are above and beyond what we can do with carpet cleaning equipment. Certain Utah water damage and flooding has saturated the carpets and the pad to the point that it would not be sanitary or healthy to put the time and effort to drying the carpet and padding even with fans. Many times the padding needs to be removed along with placing huge fans and dehumidifiers to get the water out of the flooring and even walls. Also in some instances the water has been in the carpet for long enough time that mold or mildew has started to grow. At this point we would want to refer this problem to our sister company “The Flood Company“. They have trained and certified professionals ready to remove and dry any type of problem and get you back to normal as quick as possible. Water damage big or small should not be ignored.

Water and Flood Damage Information For Your Property
Water damages requires immediate attention to minimize further losses. In case a water damage occurs in your home or property try to locate the problem. By doing so you can help prevent further damages. Examples are turning off the water line for faucet, washing machine or dishwasher. Call a plumber if a plumbing repair is needed. Call a water damage clean up professional before you call your insurance company. Saying the wrong thing when you do call your insurance company could interfere with coverage for the damage. Then move to a room which is unaffected. The basic idea here is to Move and Protect your personal belongings and documents. Standing water and wet materials are a breeding ground for microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria, and mold.

Record Snow Pack In Utah May Lead To Flooding And Water Damage
It’s Not Too Late To Get Flood Insurance
Salt Lake City, Utah, 4/27/2011 — The snow pack in most of Utah is greater than the levels at the same time in 1983, the year of the infamous floods. This condition does not insure that there will be wide spread flooding, but if the weather continues to be wet and cold adding to the snow pack, the sudden temperature raise can cause the runoff to be very high. Another contributing factor is the water soaked ground. When the ground is soaked, it is unable to absorb the additional runoff.
Also, when the ground is soaked, the pressure from the ground water is finding it’s way into many basements that have not had water problems before. Ground water is hard to “turn off”. A sump pump is the common method of dealing with ground water problems. If your neighbors have sump pumps and you don’t, you may want to consider getting one, fast! If the water is already coming into your basement, deal with the water damage the best you can while you scramble to have a sump pump installed. If you have a sump pump, make sure your home owners insurance covers a sump pump problem or failure. Beware of caps on this coverage, and add more coverage if necessary.
Normal home owners insurance will cover water damage events that originate inside the home, but not surface or ground water that enters the home. This coverage is available as a separate policy. It is called flood insurance and is underwritten by the federal government. Most insurance agents sell flood insurance. These are your options to protect you against the possible damage from flooding. Evaluate your situation and location and act quickly. There will be thousands of homes affected over the next few weeks.

Flood in your house and carpet cleaning in Utah
I recently had a small leak in my house and as a carpet cleaner I was able to bring home my carpet cleaning van and suck out the water in the carpet. For small amouts of water leakage you could suck it out and then put a fan on it to dry fast. This worked great until the leak came back and the carpet was really saturated and needed to move from a small carpet cleaning job to a flood clean up. We live in a appartment and the landlord insisted taking care of the job right. The carpet had to be pulled back in one room and the pad had to be removed as it was way to saturated. Fans were put in and we dried the all wood moldings and framing, and the carpet was dried in hours. The key is to dry out the carpet and prevent mold or mildew from growing in your walls or exposed areas. Our company “The flood company” can take care of any small flood to any size commercial building water comming out the front door. No job to big or small

Spray Something on my Carpet it Stinks!
Spray something on my carpet it stinks. This is not an uncommon request, and quite often it carpet that has been wet three days or more and has developed a strong odor. The home owner wants the odor to go away and they have self diagnosed that “spraying something on it” will take care of the problem. ”Spraying something on it” will not correct the problem and will not make all of the odor go away. Occasionally they will actually call and ask for advice. With either senario we get to educate them about water damage.
Carpet, padding or anything else that has been wet three days or longer will begin to develope a musty, earthy odor and the odor will continue to get stronger. The odor is from mold colonies that have started to grow. The first goal should be to prevent the mold by drying materials as quickly as possible. Any odor will not be eliminated until everything is suficiently dry. After about 8 to 10 days of dampness, or longer, the mold may be visible. Visible concentrations of mold means there are millions of mold spores present, and it is past the time materials can be safely dried. Blowing air on mold affected materials will spread millions of mold spores through the air. Mold removal guidelines suggest that mold affected materials should be cut out under controlled conditions and disposed of. “Spraying something on it” is not the answer.
In summary:
1- When something gets wet, or you have water damage. Dry everything quickly. It is advisable to call a water damage expert, you only have one chance to get it right.
2- If mold is visible, don’t blow air on it. Ask for a mold inspection or evaluation.
3- Don’t call your insurance, until you have consulted a water damage or mold expert. Many policies have limited coverages. Know what to say and what not to say before you call your insurance.
